For Full Grained leather or Anfibio leather there are several products you could use. Grangers’ G-wax or cream or their spray Proofer and Conditioner. Alternatively Nikwax products such as Aqueous wax which can be used on wet or dry leather and doesn’t soften the boot.
For Nubuck leather. Either use Grangers Proofer and Conditioner spray or Nikwax Suede and Nubuck proofing. If you use a wax or cream on Nubuck leather you will loose the ‘Sanded’ look of the leather and it will revert back to looking like a full-grain leather.
For Reversed Anfibio and Split leather.
Nikwax Fabric and Leather Proofer or Grangers Proofer and Conditioner spray. You could also use a Hydro bloc cream but it will change the appearance of the leather.
For Gore-Tex boots. Use a Proofer and Conditioner spray. This could be a combined spray or individual tins. Use the proofer to maintain the beading effect of water on the boot and the conditioner to maintain the fabric.
Lined-lined Leather boots. A light cream or spray from Grangers or Nikwax water-based solution to conditioner the leather but not impede the breathability of the lining i.e. G-cream or Fabric and Suede products.
Types of Leather
Anfibio Leather
The finest premier leather. Usually around 3.00mm thick and therefore predominately used on winter boots.
Reversed Anfibio Leather
Being a reversed Anfibio offers maximum strength, support and abrasion resistance. This protects the hides best surface from scuffing which will help the durability and water resistance of the leather.
Full-Grain Leather
High quality leather usually 2.3-2.6mm thick. Obtained from the top layer of the hide.
Nubuck Leather
This is a full-grain leather where the outer surface has been finely sanded. Nubuck leather should not be confused with suede or reversed leather.
Split Leather
This is the lower or inner cuts of the hide.
