Restoration Projects : Friars Crag

'Not Ours, But Ours To Look After'
Brian Redhead, late president of the Council of National Parks 1986-1990.

A restoration project to improve the path to wheelchair standard in association with George Fisher.

Balancing the needs of the environment with those of visitors and the host community is a very real challenge faced by many rural and urban areas in Britain today. In the Lake District, the public, private and voluntary sectors are working closely with the guardians of this living landscape to help safegaurd the character of the Lake District for future generations and also to maintain a diverse and vibrant economy.

Friars Crag Footpath

  • PROJECT: Friars Crag Footpath
  • SUPPORTED BY: George Fisher
  • METHODS OF FUNDRAISING: £10 sponsor a 'Metre of Path' Donation Boxes
  • RAISED TO DATE: £2511

Friar’s Crag, Keswick’s beautiful lakeshore path is said to be one of the best loved, most walked upon footpaths in England - but the winter rains wash the surface away each year and the many visitors make their mark.

George Fisher, Outdoor Adventure Retailer of Keswick are spearheading the fundraising to reach the £8,000 target to give the path a more permanent and substantial surface, upgrading it to wheelchair standard for all to enjoy.

It costs just £10 to sponsor a metre of footpath and the names of sponsors will be listed on George Fishers website - click here. The National Trust are carrying out all the upgrade work.

Alternatively there is a collecting box in Abraham's Tearoom and leaflets will also be distributed throughout the local area.

"As Associate Members of The Partnership we wanted to lead the fundraising for a project both close to us in Keswick and close to our hearts," said Michael Standring, George Fisher’s Managing Director.

The Lake District Tourism & Conservation Partnership was established in 1993. The aim is to raise funds from visitors and tourism business to maintain and enhance the Lake District.

Total raised so far: £ 2511.00
